How I work with trauma
Traumatic experiences, especially if prolonged and chronic, cause us to develop adaptations to survive. While experiencing these traumatic situations, these adaptations make complete sense! They are your body’s natural survival response to a threatening situation. This does not only refer to a situation that is endangers your physical being, it also includes situations that threaten your development of a sense of safety emotionally, within yourself and within your relationships with others.
As I spoke about on my ‘About Me’ section, I understand what it feels like to be walking around with the ‘Living Legacy’ of trauma. The adaptations we acquired to survive become maladaptive if, once out of the traumatic situation, they are not properly processed and healed from a physical, mental and emotional level. This leads to a variety of symptoms that make up this ‘Living Legacy’ of trauma, from reucurring or chronic physical illnesses, fatigue, pain, anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional dysregulation, depression, issues within interpersonal relationships, a nagging sense that something is ‘wrong’ with you or missing.. and many more I am sure you are familiar with.
You are not alone. Trauma impacts the majorty of people, whether they are aware of this or not. The ‘Living Legacy’ of trauma can dictate your life, which, for me, did for many years, and caused significant frustration, anger, overwhelm, and even chronic illness.
I have spent over a decade intensively studying and applying a vast array of trauma healing modalities. As a result, I have an in-depth understanding and felt-experience of what it is like to be on this journey.
As your Trauma-Informed Psychotherapist, I am here to make you feel comfortable, at ease and completely welcome to come just as you are as you embark on your healing journey. I emphasise helping you develop the tools to feel safe and stable within your own body, mind and emotions, which transfers to a sense of safety and stability within your interpersonal relationships and other areas of your life. This is the foundation for true and lasting trauma healing to occur.
